NAB does not offer an Islamic home loan, a Sharia personal loan or a halal car loan to individuals. What it offers is NAB Islamic Business Finance: a lease-to-own facility for business customers with a published minimum of $3 million, usable for buying or building commercial property and land, acquiring a business, or purchasing equipment and livestock. NAB's business page says it is the only major bank in Australia with a compliant solution, that the product is signed off by advisers who are part of AAOIFI and the IFSB, and that 90 accredited bankers can write it. Commonwealth Bank, ANZ and Westpac publish no Islamic finance product of any kind. A Muslim home buyer who banks with NAB keeps the transaction account and goes to a licensed Islamic financier for the house.

The direct answer: what NAB has and what it does not

Searches for NAB Islamic home loan, NAB Sharia loan and NAB halal loan all come from the same assumption: a big bank with the words Islamic finance on its website must do mortgages. It does not. NAB's Islamic finance page sits under business banking, is headed Business banking Islamic finance, and describes specialised banking services for businesses and community organisations. Its home loan pages, like every other bank's, list variable and fixed interest rate products with offset accounts and comparison rates. There is no retail Islamic product, no Islamic transaction account and no Islamic term deposit. The Islamic banking guide for Australia explains why no bank in the country offers these today.

That is not a criticism of NAB specifically. No Australian bank offers an Islamic home loan, and the one attempt to build an Islamic bank handed back its restricted licence in 2024. Our separate article on why Australia still has no Islamic bank covers the capital and licensing reasons. The point for a home buyer is simpler: the product you are searching for does not exist at NAB, and the one that does exist starts at $3 million and requires a business.

NAB Islamic Business Finance as NAB publishes it

NAB's Islamic finance page states the offering in four sentences. It offers a minimum of $3 million to support the purchase or construction of commercial property and land, business acquisitions, and the purchase of equipment or livestock. It supports everyday businesses including schools, pharmacies, child care, grocery stores, aged care facilities and property developments. The financing is also available to business customers who do not have property to use as security. And it says Islamic finance changes the structure, not the economics, providing a compliant alternative with comparable pricing, which is NAB's own way of saying the rent will look like the interest on an equivalent loan.

The structure is described on NAB's broker site, in an article dated 23 June 2025, as a lease-to-own and agency structure built to global Islamic finance standards. The same article says NAB launched the product in 2021 for businesses seeking over $5 million, that customer numbers grew 28% in the year to early 2025 with a 54% rise in New South Wales, and that NAB was named Best Islamic Bank in Australia at the 2025 IFN and Euromoney Islamic finance awards. The business page adds a social responsibility rule: financing for alcohol, gaming, arms and weaponry industries is strictly prohibited. The NAB Islamic Finance provider page holds our standing assessment; our halal business banking guide covers the everyday banking side that NAB does not make Islamic.

What the other three majors publish

We read the home loan pages of Commonwealth Bank, ANZ and Westpac on 21 September 2026. None mentions Islamic, Shariah or halal finance anywhere on those pages, and none has a product page for Islamic finance that we could find. Each describes a conventional menu: variable and fixed interest rates, offset accounts, redraw, lenders mortgage insurance and government low-deposit schemes. NAB's own broker article states that it remains the only major bank in the Big Four to offer Islamic finance products, and nothing on the other three banks' sites contradicts that. The assessment of how close the big four are to Islamic banking looks at the industry question; for a customer the summary is one row each.

Why there is no big-four halal mortgage, in three sentences

A bank's retail mortgage book is funded by deposits and wholesale borrowing at interest, so an Islamic home product would need its own ring-fenced funding, its own Shariah board and separate documentation under the National Credit Code, for a customer base the banks have judged too small to justify the build. NAB chose the commercial end instead, where a single $3 million lease can be structured transaction by transaction with specialist bankers and no retail disclosure regime. The retail market has therefore been left to licensed non-bank financiers and co-operatives, which is where every Australian Islamic home finance product actually comes from.

Where a NAB customer gets Islamic home finance and keeps NAB banking

You do not need to leave NAB to buy a house the halal way. Keep the NAB transaction account for salary, bills and card payments, decline the interest on it as the minimising-interest checklist explains, and take the home finance from a licensed Islamic financier. MCCA in Melbourne is the oldest, with a published 10% minimum deposit on our provider research; Hejaz, also Melbourne-based, is the only group where a household can finance a home and a car and invest with one provider; Ijarah Finance in Sydney has the deepest product shelf and a published certification. ICFAL, Amanah, Salaam, Riyadh FS and Crestmount Money complete the list, and the complete guide to halal home financing in Australia compares all of them on structure and deposit.

Two practical points for a NAB customer. First, the Islamic financier will want to see your NAB statements for income and conduct, exactly as a bank would, so keep the account clean for three to six months before applying. Second, an offset account against Islamic home finance is not the same as NAB's offset against a loan; some financiers offer a rental-reducing equivalent and some do not, and our guide to offset accounts and halal home finance explains what to ask. The Islamic home financing hub lists every current provider.

If you are a business owner: what to ask NAB before a meeting

  • Confirm your transaction clears the $3 million minimum, or ask whether NAB will consider a smaller facility; the page states the minimum without exceptions.
  • Ask for the Shariah certificate or pronouncement for the lease-to-own structure and the name of the advisory firm and scholars who issued it, since the page names only the bodies they belong to.
  • Ask how the rent is set and reviewed, what benchmark it references, and whether a fixed-rent period is available, because comparable pricing means the rent will move like a loan rate.
  • Ask what the agency arrangement in the structure requires you to do as NAB's agent, including insurance, maintenance and statutory charges on the asset.
  • Ask what happens on early payout, late payment and default, and whether any charge in those clauses is capped at actual cost.
  • Ask whether the purpose is within scope: commercial property, land, business acquisition, equipment or livestock, and whether your industry is excluded.

Verdict

For a business owner with a commercial property, acquisition or equipment need of $3 million or more, NAB Islamic Business Finance is a serious option and the only one from a major bank: specialist bankers, a lease-to-own structure signed off by advisers linked to AAOIFI and the IFSB, and availability without property security. Get the certificate and the rent mechanics in writing, and compare the proposal with MCCA's commercial finance and the other non-bank commercial lenders before signing. For a home buyer, the answer is no and will stay no for the foreseeable future; stop searching for a NAB Sharia loan, keep your NAB account, and take your application to a licensed Islamic financier using the home financing comparison above. Frequently asked questions

Does NAB offer Islamic home loans?

No. NAB's only Islamic finance product is NAB Islamic Business Finance, a lease-to-own facility for business customers with a published minimum of $3 million for commercial property, business acquisitions, equipment and livestock. NAB's home loan pages list conventional variable and fixed interest rate loans only. Home buyers use licensed non-bank Islamic financiers such as MCCA, Hejaz or Ijarah Finance.

What is NAB Islamic Business Finance?

A business finance facility NAB describes as a lease-to-own and agency structure built to global Islamic finance standards, with a $3 million minimum, available to businesses without property security, for buying or constructing commercial property and land, acquiring a business, or purchasing equipment or livestock. NAB says it is signed off by advisers who are part of AAOIFI and the IFSB and written by 90 accredited bankers.

Do CommBank, ANZ or Westpac offer Sharia-compliant finance?

No. On 21 September 2026 the home loan pages of Commonwealth Bank, ANZ and Westpac described conventional interest-based products only, with no mention of Islamic, Shariah or halal finance, and we found no Islamic product page on any of the three sites. NAB's broker site states that NAB remains the only major bank in the Big Four offering Islamic finance products.

Is NAB's Islamic finance actually halal?

NAB publishes the structure type (lease-to-own and agency), the excluded industries (alcohol, gaming, arms and weaponry) and the fact that advisers belonging to AAOIFI and the IFSB signed it off, but not the certificate or the scholars' names. Ask for the Shariah pronouncement and the rent-setting mechanism before relying on the label; NAB itself says the economics match a conventional loan.

Can I keep my NAB account and get halal home finance elsewhere?

Yes, and that is the normal arrangement. Keep the NAB transaction account for salary and payments, decline or dispose of any interest it pays, and apply to an Islamic financier for the house. The financier will assess your NAB statements for income and conduct, so keep the account tidy for several months before applying.

What is the minimum for NAB Islamic finance?

NAB's business Islamic finance page states a minimum of $3 million. Its broker article notes that the product launched in 2021 for businesses seeking over $5 million, so the threshold has come down, but there is no published pathway below $3 million. Smaller commercial needs go to MCCA, Ijarah Finance, ICFAL or the other non-bank Islamic financiers.

Quick Answer

NAB Islamic home loan: there is none. NAB Islamic Business Finance starts at $3 million for commercial property and equipment. What CBA, ANZ, Westpac publish.
